World today as we keep on hearing is full of material needs and desires.Being a student of MBA in Delhi i keep on hearing the various prophecies that the material world keeps on proposing and hence when my parents said that they were going on a trip to the holy dhams of Haridwar,Rishikesh,Kedarnath and Badrinath i gladly obliged as i needed some time off from my regular 9-5 schedule of lectures.
Haridwar and Rishikesh are historically know and renowned to be great centers of spiritual satisfaction attainment due to the presence of river Ganges which flows in serenly through these places but to be honest i was kind of disappointed with the commercialization and dirt that became a feature in these two towns.Our trip to Haridwar took place on the auspicious day of Dusshera(The day when Lord Ram annihalated the once mighty and knowledgeable Ravana) and took us nearly 6 hours to reach.We visited the famous Mansadevi temple located on top of small hill and enjoyed the small ropeway ride to the summit of hill.I was terribly disappointed with the Priests and Pandits in the temple as they seemed to be morally corrupt themselves by constantly stating to the worshippers the need to make "Daan"(charity) to god when infact its upon the worshippers discretion to make it.After visiting the temple we made the small trek down hill and saw the interesting sight of a monkey drinking "Mango Frooti".Also along the way i could spot couple of Langoors which was quite amazing.Our short trip down the hill was completed when we rode a 10 seater rickshaw towards "Har ki Paudi".We could see the mighty image of paper made Ravana standing and illuminated wating to be ignited.On reaching the banks of Ganges we made a short trip across the river over the bridge to reach "har ki paudi" where the evening Maha Aarti was a sight worth remembering.The constant hymns and chants of pandits along with the sight of hundreds of leaf made boats carrying small deepaks over the river was some thing worth experiencing.
The net day we left for the holy city of Rishikesh which has been known as a internationally renowned center for Yoga.The city was quite interesting with the river ganga seperating the two parts of the town connected by two cable suspension bridge aptly known as The Laxman Jhula and the Ram Jhula.We ate our hearty breakfast at the famous Chotiwala restaurant.The breakfast composed of piping hot Paranthas which sufficed us to skip our lunch.
We began our trip up the himalayas the same day for the holy temple of Kedarnath which is supposed to be mythological stairway to heaven from where after vanquishing the mighty Kauravas the Pandavas ascended upon what ye call the Heaven. What made us wonder upon was the marvel of creating a temple at such great incline and heights thousands of year back ascending the mighty Himalayas.
